Paradigms (Prints, Drawing, Sculpture)

December through April, 2025

Jackie Ferrara, Diane Simpson, Martin Puryear, Lee Bontecou, and Terry Winters, though part of distinct generations, share a common thread in their exploration of form and architecture within their artistic practices. Ferrara's minimalist sculptures, often composed of stacked geometric forms, engage with architectural principles of mass and volume. Simpson's meticulously crafted garments and sculptures reference historical dress and architecture, transforming everyday objects into formal investigations. Puryear’s sculptures, rooted in carpentry and woodworking, often evoke architectural elements like columns and beams, while Bontecou’s abstract, biomorphic paintings and sculptures reference both organic and industrial forms. Winters's paintings, drawing upon abstract forms inspired by nature, create a sense of depth and space. Together, these artists demonstrate the diverse ways in which architecture and form can be interpreted and reimagined within contemporary art.
